“real learning gets to the heart of what it meansto be human. Through learning we re-create ourselves.Through learning we become able to do something we neverwere able to do. Through learning we re-perceive theworld and our relationship to it. Through learning weextend our capacity to create, to be part of the generativeprocess of life. There is within each of us a deep hungerfor this type of learning".

Peter Senge, The Fifth Discipline 1995

The conference theme in 2010 will focus on “real learning” andthe ways in which we, as practitioners make learning possiblein diverse and challenging contexts.

Sharing and affirming good practice and finding waysto encourage innovative and creative thinking are essentialaims of the conference. The adult literacy, languageand numeracy field is well placed to engage with issues ofsocial inclusion. Innovative programs are pivotal in raisingawareness and supporting action around wellbeing, socialconnection and networks. Programs working with accreditedand non-accredited curriculum have the challenges of providingopportunities for second chance learners to develop understandingand deal with finances, health, civics and the law to fullyparticipate in society.
