1. ACFE- Peak bodies workshop
On Thursday 11 February ACFE hosted a workshop for the various peak bodies in the sector to meet and share information and discuss potential relationships. It was a successful and productive day and we anticipate more coordinated communication and collaboration in how we work with and represent our members and the wider ACE sector. VALBEC committee members will continue to liaise with ACFE and peak bodies representatives.

2. The Fine Print Editorial Committee announces the Student Writing Edition 2010
Theme : The Spice of Life – food and cooking Deadline: Friday June 11th
Students
Ideas for writing could be: food traditions and culture; food abundance or privation; food issues such as food security and sustainability; flavour and smell; growing food including community gardens; food jobs; evocative food; learning to cook; what food or meal is the ‘spice of life’ for you and why……….
Teachers
We want you to use your students’ writing as inspiration for writing about your teaching practice and the ways in which you develop learning activities that enable integration of curriculum to achieve learning outcomes.

3. VALBEC membership fees are now due

4. National VET research priorities: 2010 and beyond
NCVER held a public forum on Friday, 5 February 2010 at the Victoria University and a webinar on Tuesday, 9 February 2010 to give stakeholders the opportunity to discuss the future national VET research priorities. A member of the VALBEC committee attended and found it to be a most interesting day.

9. Resources and Support for ESL and CGEA Teachers from the CMM General Studies and Further Education
ESL Assessment Tools
A new resource is available on the Training Support Network (TSN) to support the implementation of the ESL Framework.

CGEA Assessment tools
The CMM has produced some sample assessment tools for the CGEA based on workshop materials from the 2009 CGEA Assessment Day. ‘NEW’ - ESL ACE Teacher network
This teacher network has been set up to support ESL teachers in ACE delivering the ESL Framework certificates. Any ACE teacher delivering the ESL certificates in the Framework is welcome to join the group.
The next meeting of the ESL ACE Teachers Network will be held on Friday 16 April from 10 – 2pm, lunch provided. Room 10.48, level 10, 300 Flinders Street, Melbourne

ESL PD Day
A one day ESL Framework PD session has been funded by ACFE in 2010. More information on date and venue will be available soon.
CGEA Champions
This group will meet again on Monday 15th March (10am – 3pm)
Venue: Building 94, level 3, room 18 RMIT University
23-27 Cardigan St (near corner of Victoria St) Carlton.
The group meets to discuss and share ideas on teaching and assessment of the CGEA. The group will be involved in planning the 2 ACFE funded CMM PD sessions planned for the CGEA in 2010.
