Building a Story of the Moving Kind - Using Photo Story 3 to build a digital story
with Debbie Soccio, Victoria University

In most cases, we use the term "digital storytelling" to call attention to a balance between an historically grounded, human-centred appreciation of good storytelling skills and a sophisticated grasp of the creative potential of a new set of digital tools. Most of us realise that a good story tends to work no matter what the medium. But, when working with adult community education students (including young people), digital storytelling enhances the development of basic literacy skills and embeds the use of technology within a meaningful and relevant learning experience. Digital technology is an unparalleled medium for encouraging a person's initial foray into storytelling and narrative literacy.
This workshop provides opportunity for participants to participate in the development of a digital story. At the same time the workshop combines the theoretical and practical examples of how highly complex software packages can be used with a range of students with varying learning abilities. It is also an opportunity to showcase some of the stories which have been created by students with a range of literacy skills.
In particular, this workshop provides practical experience in using new software tools for creating learning environments appropriate for all ranges of learners in the twenty-first century.
